Day 9 - Amarillo, TX

This day we had a long long drive from Austin to Amarillo, Texas. It was all minor highways though and so we were able to see some pretty incredible scenery! Very different from the East Coast. Amarillo was also quite an experience as can be seen below...

About to hit a dust storm. It was very very dry and windy on this drive.

We pulled over for a little while to enjoy the isolation of the highway. You could see for miles and I was able to do a little dance without any passer-bys noticing/laughing.

Ahh Amarillo. The two things we visited here will give you the impression that this is the most gimmicky town in the US. It may be true. This is called Cadillac Ranch. A famed Amarillo millionaire decided to purchase 10 classic Cadillacs and create a little piece of modern art in the middle of nowhere.

Cadillac Ranch could only be topped by "The Big Texan Steak Ranch". Notice the six Texas state flags. And the giant cow.

Famed for its offer of a free 72 oz. steak to anyone who can finish the meal in under an hour. These guys were pathetic. They didn't have a chance. Cost of failure: $72 and a stomach ache

A lot of dead animals staring at you while you eat. This is genuine Texas dining right?

The guy on the right eating steak, the one gaping at his food, looks like Alex Mcgee to me. yeah?
